Earlier this month, the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released a “Cyber Essentials” guide for small businesses and government agencies to enhance the Nation’s collective effort to combat cyber threats. The CISA guide is composed of two parts; (i) guiding principles for leaders to create a culture of readiness and (ii) specific actions for IT professionals to enforce them. There are six main components of the Cyber Essentials that include driving cybersecurity strategy, developing a heightened awareness of security and risks, protecting assets, managing access, ensuring proper back-ups, and developing a response plan to mitigate damage.
